1.7238 / 49CrMo4 / Engineering Steel

Steel round bar grade 1.7238 (European equivalent 50CrMo4, Russian equivalent 50KhM) is a structural alloyed chromium-molybdenum steel designed for manufacturing highly loaded machine-building components. This grade belongs to the heat-treatable steels and provides high strength combined with good toughness after heat treatment.

Chemical Composition of 1.7238 / 50CrMo4 / 50KhM Steel (in percentages):

• Carbon (C): 0.46-0.54%
• Chromium (Cr): 0.90-1.20%
• Molybdenum (Mo): 0.15-0.30%
• Manganese (Mn): 0.50-0.80%
• Silicon (Si): 0.17-0.37%
• Phosphorus (P): max 0.035%
• Sulfur (S): max 0.035%

Mechanical Properties:

• Yield strength: min 750 MPa
• Ultimate tensile strength: 1000-1200 MPa
• Elongation: min 11%
• Reduction of area: min 45%
• Hardness after tempering: 28-34 HRC
• Hardness after quenching: 56-62 HRC

The material is supplied as round bars in various diameters. Steel 1.7238 is characterized by uniform properties throughout the cross-section and high surface quality. Each batch is accompanied by a quality certificate confirming the material’s compliance with the specified characteristics.

To achieve optimal mechanical properties, it is recommended to perform heat treatment in the form of quenching followed by high tempering (improvement). During machining, modern cutting tools and coolant should be used to ensure the required surface quality.
