Steel round bar 1.7258 (European equivalent 24CrMo5) is a structural alloyed chromium-molybdenum steel designed for manufacturing critical machine-building components. This steel grade belongs to case-hardening steels and features an excellent combination of strength, plasticity, and wear resistance after appropriate heat treatment.

Chemical Composition of 1.7258 / 24CrMo5 Steel (in percentages):

  • Carbon (C): 0.22-0.29%
  • Chromium (Cr): 1.00-1.30%
  • Molybdenum (Mo): 0.15-0.25%
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.60-0.90%
  • Silicon (Si): 0.15-0.35%
  • Phosphorus (P): max 0.035%
  • Sulfur (S): max 0.035%

Mechanical Properties:

  • Yield strength: min 590 MPa
  • Ultimate tensile strength: 780-930 MPa
  • Elongation: min 12%
  • Surface hardness after case hardening: 58-63 HRC
  • Core hardness after heat treatment: 30-40 HRC

The material is supplied as round bars in various diameters. Steel 1.7258 is characterized by consistent properties throughout the workpiece cross-section and high surface quality. Each batch is accompanied by a quality certificate confirming the material’s compliance with the specified characteristics.

During machining, it is recommended to use modern cutting tools and coolant to achieve optimal surface quality. Heat treatment should be carried out in strict accordance with technological recommendations to achieve the required mechanical properties.
