Steel Strip 1.2360 / X50CrMoV8-1: Properties, Applications, and Features

General Technical Characteristics

Steel grade 1.2360, also known as X50CrMoV8-1, is a cold work tool steel characterized by high hardness, wear resistance, and good toughness. The addition of chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium enhances its hardenability and stability during heat treatment. This composition ensures an optimal balance between hardness, wear resistance, and machinability.

Chemical Composition (%):

  • Carbon (C): 0.45–0.50
  • Silicon (Si): 0.70–0.90
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.35–0.45
  • Chromium (Cr): 7.30–7.80
  • Molybdenum (Mo): 1.30–1.50
  • Vanadium (V): 1.30–1.50

Mechanical Properties

  • Hardness after Annealing: Max. 240 HB
  • Hardness after Quenching and Tempering: 58–62 HRC

These properties make the steel suitable for manufacturing tools requiring high hardness and wear resistance.

Applications

Steel strip 1.2360 / X50CrMoV8-1 is widely used for manufacturing tools and components operating under high load and wear conditions.

Primary Application Areas:

  • Blanking tools
  • Stamping tools
  • Embossing tools
  • Forming dies
  • Press dies
  • Die inserts
  • Extrusion dies
  • Reinforcements
  • Cold extrusion tools
  • Tube tools
  • Cutting tools
  • Industrial knives
  • Wood chipping knives
  • Veneer knives

Its properties make it ideal for tools requiring high precision and durability.

Features

  • Heat Treatment: Recommended hardening at 1035–1070 °C with cooling in oil, salt bath, or air, followed by tempering at 100–600 °C to achieve desired mechanical properties.
  • Machinability: The steel is easily machinable in its annealed state, simplifying the manufacturing process of tools.
  • Weldability: Limited; welding is recommended only for tool repair, followed by heat treatment to restore properties.

Steel strip 1.2360 / X50CrMoV8-1 is an excellent choice for manufacturing tools and components that require high hardness, wear resistance, and dimensional stability, ensuring reliability and longevity in service.
