1.4742 / X10CrAlSi18 Heat-Resistant Steel

Steels such as Ferrotherm 4742 or 1.4742 are heat-resistant stainless steels. The steel is based on iron (approximately 83 percent), with chromium, manganese and aluminum acting as alloying components.

This steel composition provides the following physical characteristics:

• high strength;
• impact resistance;
• good ductility;
• resistance to corrosion.

Steel 1.4742 / 15Х18СЮ is used for finished structures and components operating in aggressive environments with a high sulfur content. Its closest analogues include steels 1.4724 and 1.4762, which differ mainly in their chromium and aluminum content.

Machining Characteristics of 1.4742 Steel

Stainless steels of this type can be difficult to machine because they tend to produce long chips during processing. To avoid this issue, it is recommended to use appropriate carbide cutting tools and follow the recommended machining parameters.

Industrial Applications of 1.4742 Steel

Steel 1.4742 is used in pipe production, the manufacture of fittings and pyrolysis installations. It is also used in the petrochemical, construction, mining and medical industries. The alloy retains its properties over a wide temperature range, up to 900°C, making it suitable for applications in heavy industry and steel production.
