Alloy 32NKD

Stainless steel 32NKD is a precision alloy with a regulated level of thermal expansion coefficient. It belongs to the group of superinvars, which is characterized by an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion.

The basis of the material is iron, with a share of up to 64%, as well as cobalt, which accounts for up to 4%, and nickel – up to 32%. It contains copper, manganese, silicon, carbon, phosphorus and sulfur in a much lower ratio.

Special properties

Considering what alloys there are from the group of invars, 32NKD can be considered a special type.

To ensure low thermal expansion of the alloy, magnetostrictive volume reduction is used during heating, which compensates for thermal expansion.

Significant strength of the material is achieved by cold plastic deformation, with further processing at low temperature, and resistance to atmospheric corrosive effects is achieved by polishing, as well as a protective layer, in case of use in particularly aggressive environments.

Applications

Stainless steel sheet, rods, wire, tape and pipes made of 32NKD steel are widely used in the production of elements of instrumentation, heat insulators in vacuum equipment , gas-tight grinding joints of metal and quartz products, as well as other components that provide special properties of the source materials.
